In 2014, POMO museum staff and volunteers walked from Port Moody to the Legislature to mark the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of World War I and the 75th Anniversary of World War II to honour British Columbians who died in the two wars, with a message of Peace and Remembrance.
THE CALL WENT OUT
THE CALL WENT OUT
The POMO Museum was very excited to welcome Story Theatre Company in 2015 to give two performances of “The Call Went Out “ . This performance chronicled the journeys of young soldiers from British Columbia as they joined the military, embarked on their travels, and encountered the unanticipated horrors of WWI. This production was woven together using authentic letters, music, and propaganda from that historical period, offering a genuine and immersive portrayal of their experiences.
Written and directed by Jim Leard and featuring Kirtsi Hack, Jeff Leard, David MacPherson, and Ingrid Moore. Costumes and props designed by Sadie Fox. Musical Direction by Avery Brown.
Fashions on the Homefront
The Museum hosted a fashion show in 2016 about fashions on the home front. Ivan Sayers, renowned fashion historian, featured his collection while explaining the impact that war had on fashions on the homefront.
In 2018, Expect Exceptional Theatre Company put on performances about the WWI Christmas Truce.
In 1914, amidst the horrors of WWI, a remarkable event happened during the holiday season known as the Christmas Truce. It involved soldiers on opposing sides briefly setting down their weapons and temporarily coming together to celebrate Christmas.
