History of the Port Moody Heritage Society
The Port Moody Historical Society (PMHS) began as a group of interested citizens in the mid 1960s with the desire to preserve some of the history of the area and create a museum. The Port Moody Historical Society was incorporated June 15, 1969. A museum was set up in a portable at the corner of Kyle and George Street. The Museum was set up on May 23, 1973. Volunteers operated the Museum. In 1978, the Society purchased the Port Moody Station and moved it to its present location on Murray Street and refurbished it to be a museum facility; it officially opened on July 1, 1983. In 1983, the Port Moody Historical Society changed its name to the Port Moody Heritage Society.
